I agree with what you wrote. Frankly, this list is no big surprise. I agree that historical context is not an excuse for racism. History is full of powerful men (mostly) who have done heinous acts in the name of race that they thought were right for their time — from Milosevic to Tutankhamun and thousands of others. We need a methodical and thorough update our history books to reveal the full true story so that future generations get the truth and can judge for themselves. History teaches but hindsight is a tricky thing. What will future Medium readers think of our views today?
